How to Get the Most Out of Your Desk and Have the Best Day Ever…. At work

It’s usually around this time of year when I crave organization more than ever. For those of you that know me, you know that organization makes me smile, and is music to my ears! I find that during the holiday season along with all the joy and fun, brings a TON of clutter. Since I spend most of my time in the office, it is really important for me to run through some simple tasks each day to help streamline my day; keeping me more organized, on task and energized. If you crave organization like me, then you can follow these simple tasks that help me and you too can have the most productive day of your life… everyday!

1. Keep it Clean

Each day before I turn the lights off and close up I take a few minutes to tidy up, throw out trash that’s collected on my desk and whisk away any coffee mugs or snacks from the day, and re organize my piles and to-do's. This is key to keeping your desk and office space a sane space. Making sure to do this at the close of each day makes your mornings sooo much more efficient. Once a week I wipe down my desk and sanitize my keyboard and mouse to keep things clean and germ free too.

2. Flag Down the Important Stuff

I don’t know about you but I’m pretty good at multitasking which can be great when I have a ton to do but can also work against me. I can be deep into emails and then a call or project can throw me off task. One of the first things I do each morning is skim new emails, texts and voice mails and flag those that need my attention asap. This way I’m tackling the most pressing to-do’s first.

3. Health is Everything

It’s 2018.. ALMOST 2019! If keeping healthy isn’t one of your top priorities right now it should be. My desk is no exception and while I do love a sweet treat and an overzealous oat milk latte at times, I aim to keep my desk a place that promotes good well- being. I am rarely without my Tone It Up Protein Bars and fruit. After coffee I try to keep my days packed with water. I swear that my Swell bottle makes me want to drink more water; I don’t go anywhere without it. Halfway through the day I sawp my desk chair for a bosu ball that I keep handy, this helps me stretch between emails, and work on better posture.

Here are some other desk friendly snacks that will keep you healthy and won’t ruin the vibe of your desk: nuts, I love almonds, protein packed bars, dried fruit, rice cakes and almond butter (try these together if you haven’t already) and a daily multivitamin and probiotic in case you have a dark chocolate and bagged chip day.... 4. Surround Yourself with Happy

Let’s face it, no matter where you work or what you do, work can often feel like… well, work. It’s not always fun and it’s not always easy, and there are trying days! I have found that having tiny momentoes of my personal life sprinkled throughout my work space gives me subtle chances to remind myself of the things that bring me joy outside of the office. Whether its photos of family, friends or my beloved fur children or even an old concert ticket can me smile when I’m in the thick of the work day. Mixing these little reminders into a vision board can be a great way to remind yourself of your dreams, aspiration and what keeps you motivated.
