How to Defeat the Evils of Nail Staining

One of the biggest nightmares of painting your nails is the possibility of nail staining. Some of the most common questions I get are; why does it happen, how do you get rid of it, and most importantly how do you prevent it.

In what I’ve seen and experienced there are three key factors contributing to the level of nail staining. If you follow my tips, this should never be an issue:

  1. There are many products out there that contain harsh chemicals such as formaldehyde and toluene. Luckily today companies are becoming more aware of the problem and making their products more natural, and safe to use. I’m not only talking about the polish its self, but all nail products (like removers, oils etc.) can be a culprit. Harsh nail polish removers, for example, can cause your nails to dehydrate and become discolored. That’s why it’s important to look for 5 free brands such as Lauren B. that do not cause long-term damage and are eco- and vegan friendly.
  1. People forget to use a proper base coat like my Nail Perfecter. Base coats are not only very important when you are using those super dark colors, but it is important all the time because sometime even a simple nude, or any other color can make your nails that undesirable yellow. I cannot stress the importance of a good base coat. Bonus, our Nail Perfecter base coat not only protects your nails from staining, it also nourishes and smoothens your nails of imperfections, ridges etc for the perfect base to your perfect manicure.
  1. Time. Giving your nails a break every once in a while makes a HUGE difference in how healthy your nails are, and if your nails are already stained it is crucial to leave them free of any nail polish for a few days. I know people like me that are addicted to polish, and impatient do not like to wait. However, it is so important to give your nails a chance to breathe every once in a while. Dare to go bare!
Although time and patience is one of the healthiest options for your nails, there are also a million and one home remedies that you can try to solve your nail-staining dilemma. For example, you can scrub your nails or soak in hydrogen peroxide, denture tablet solutions, lemon juice, and baking soda just to list a few. Don’t loose hope and do fear if you have nail staining, it is very common and can be solved and prevented by following some of my tips. I hope this helped in your search for happy healthy nails! xx, Lauren
